So now Mayor Fenty wants to increase parking meter rates to 25 cents for five minutes, or a whopping 24 quarters for two hours. I remember the first time, in 2009 that I had to shell out 16 quarters to pay for parking near Union Station. Soon, you will need to carry around a vault on wheels. [More]

Michelle Rhee reported to the DC City Council on Tuesday that she knew in February that there were suprlus funds available. However, she did not report that information to the Council. This revelation comes on the heels of the contention that Ms. Rhee knew very well that teachers would have to be laid off (266 were laid off) to accomate her hiring of 900 new teachers. Michelle Rhee has shown contempt for honesty and transparency. [More]

The alleged murderer of Tanganika Stanton was acquitted on Tuesday for the September 2008 murder. This murder is referred to as the "Hamburger Murder" because Tanganika refused to make a hamburger for a male who approached her. However, it is also reported that she refused to give him her phone number. This is not about a hamburger, it is about a sexual advance turned down. In 2004, in Northeast, just a few blocks from where I live, Myesha Lowe was killed. Allegedly, the killer had returned, as in Tanganika's case, after a sexual advance was refused. [More]

While there are no simple solutions to stop violence, such as the multiple murders that were committed in southwest Washington last Tuesday, we can take concrete steps to create an environment that will make it less likely to happen. One important factor is to find out why youth in the juvenile detention system that have repeated offenses are not properly detained to prevent recurrences of violent behavior. [More]

The main issue is education to prevent HIV/AIDS infection. A recent study has shown conclusively that programs that emphasize abstinence from sex, unlike so called "comprehensive" programs that mostly emphasize using condoms, reduce the number of teens having sex. Why then does Washington, DC continue to push ever more condoms, even now promoting female condoms, when no study has ever shown that so called "comprehensive" sex education programs increase the rate of consistent condom use among the general population...
